The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Munich was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be building positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
