One of the original creators behind the well-known ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's has stated how corporate owner the multinational conglomerate prevented the launch for a new pro-Palestinian ice cream flavor.

Ben Cohen, who established the company alongside his partner, announced how he will independently develop this new product within a personal collection showcasing causes the company was prevented from speaking out about.

Longstanding Dispute Between Founders and Corporate Owner

The recent development deepens the continuing disagreement among the internationally recognized dessert company with its corporate parent, the British consumer goods giant which acquired Ben & Jerry's since 2000.

Both founders maintain how Unilever along with its ice cream arm Magnum unlawfully blocked Ben & Jerry's from "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

The Fruit Flavor as a Symbol of Solidarity

Mr. Cohen announced through an Instagram video that he's developing a new watermelon-based sorbet, asking for consumer ideas for the product's name plus potential ingredients.

“I'm doing what they were prevented from doing,” Mr. Cohen declared in his kitchen. “I'm making a watermelon-flavored ice cream that calls for permanent peace for Palestinians while demanding repairing the damage that was done there.”

The watermelon has become a symbol for solidarity with the Palestinian people because of its colors, which mirror the colors in Palestine's national banner – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Previous Activism and Current Developments

Several years ago, Ben & Jerry's refused to sell its products in territories occupied by Israel, leading to the parent company selling the Israeli operation over to a local licensee, thereby permitting ongoing distribution within disputed territories.

This upcoming product line will be developed under Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the socially conscious dessert company that originally created several years back for endorsing former political contender Bernie Sanders with the flavor "Bernie's Back".

Management Shifts and Future Intentions

The founder stated that he will create additional ice cream flavors focusing on issues which the company was silenced from speaking about openly by corporate restrictions.

The announcement comes after co-founder Jerry Greenfield resigned from Ben & Jerry's recently, after many years of involvement, citing concerns regarding how its independence had been undermined after Unilever's decision to curb its social activism.

Previously, Ben Cohen stated how "Jerry has strong compassion and this conflict with our parent company was breaking it."

"My heart compels me to continue to work inside the company to fight for corporate autonomy ensuring that the company can achieve the social mission, the principles which it was founded on while upholding for over 40 years," he explained to media outlets.
