The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
