The Division Makes Its Way to the Tabletop Gaming World as a Deeply Strategic TTRPG

The intense world of Tom Clancy’s The Division will be translated into a dice-based role-playing experience. A partnership was established to create a tabletop RPG that explores the series' post-pandemic setting. The project was revealed, with a funding drive scheduled to begin in the spring of 2026.

"This project aims to deliver the series' unique suspense, tactical intensity, and iconic world-building to the table, offering fans a fresh avenue to experience The Division through deep narrative and player-driven missions," reads an official release.

Launch products will include a starter set, core rulebooks, a GM screen, figurines, and various deluxe editions.

Delving Into The Division's Apocalyptic World

In this setting, a deadly virus called Green Poison was unleashed in New York City, plunging the nation into turmoil. As the pandemic worsens, civil order breaks down and hostile groups emerge, turning the urban landscape into a battlefield. To preserve law and order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a covert network of sleeper agents. That’s where the agents enter the story.

Work on the game has been in progress for about three years, and it is confirmed to be complete. The forthcoming crowdfunding effort will serve as a pre-launch sales platform to access a wider market, specifically in North America. Production is slated to begin right after the campaign, with shipping expected for later in 2026.

An Innovative Gameplay Mechanic: The GRIS System

An early look at the system confirms it employs 10-sided dice exclusively through its proprietary GRIS system, encouraging a streamlined and tactical style. Agents use abilities to roll a handful of dice, typically from one to five d10s.

  • Rather than summing the total, players select a single “resolution die” from the pool.
  • This dice is then measured against a set challenge number.
  • Rolling a natural 10 triggers special effects, such as extra damage or boosted support.

Combat Focus On Positioning and Awareness

Fights prioritize placement and environmental awareness, reflecting the source material. Factors like taking cover, elevation, or line of sight have a direct impact success chances. This mechanic is designed to favor teamwork and clever tactics over raw numbers.

A Thematic Health System

The way health is managed adds a interesting thematic twist. Agents have a wound threshold; taking heavy hits reduces their capabilities by lowering the size of their dice pool.

  1. At critical condition, an operative is downed, but is not knocked out.
  2. They can still move and perform restricted acts, simulating the "downed" state common to video game shooters.
  3. Any agent knocked down must consult a trauma table, risking persistent effects like trauma or crippling injuries.

An Introductory Scenario

A free introductory rulebook will be released soon. It contains a ready-to-play introductory scenario called Ashes of Murray Hill. In this scenario, players spearhead the hunt for a lost doctor squad and work to stop an attack by the notorious Rikers gang, who have taken over that NYC neighborhood. Further information and the complete product lineup will be detailed near the Kickstarter start date.
