The Blue Jays Secure World Series Matchup Against defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder contributed to the Houston Astros claiming the World Series in 2017.

Toronto's Blue Jays earned a spot in their maiden championship series following 1993 by beating the Mariners in the decisive game seven of the ALCS.

Behind three runs to one, Springer delivered a three-run homer in the seventh inning, propelling the sole Canadian team in MLB to a four games to three victory in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the defending champions, who are the defending champions, in the anticipated World Series.

"It's incredible for this squad, Toronto, the nation," commented Springer, a key player of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 championship. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."

George Springer has now slugged 23 total post-season home runs, placing him third in history behind Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).

"There's probably not another person anywhere that I'd prefer in that moment other than George Springer with his post-season brilliance," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

Seattle's team, despite leading the early in the series, are still the sole team never to appear in a Fall Classic.

Manager Dan Wilson commented "there's no question that it's painful" in the wake of his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but praised their efforts this season.

"They're an exceptional squad. It's a shame that we had to come out on the wrong side of the series," he added.

Toronto won the World Series on their two prior appearances in 1992 and 1993, and are set to host the Dodgers in game one on the upcoming Friday.
