Seamer Atkinson Compounds England's Injury Concerns.

'Major setback' for England after Atkinson goes off due to a hamstring issue.

The English seamer added to the injury concerns plaguing England upon exiting the field on the second morning in the Melbourne Test versus the Australians.

The pace bowler felt a problem in his left hamstring post-delivery of the fourth over at the MCG.

Team management indicated Atkinson felt some "soreness" and was to take time off the field in order to be assessed "over the next few hours".

The final Test of the series in Sydney begins this coming Sunday.

The visitors have been without key quicks Mark Wood with a knee problem and another paceman to a side strain on the current trip.

A replacement bowler was called up to provide backup.

Atkinson struggled early in the series, taking just a handful of scalps.

He was left out for the Adelaide match, then recalled for the Melbourne Test as Archer's replacement.

Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, taking two wickets with the ball, then making 28 as a batsman among just a trio of English batsmen to get into double digits.

After bowling one over late on the first day, he resumed the next day and had nightwatchman edging to the keeper.

Unfortunately, at the end of that over, he delivered a slower ball to Travis Head and suddenly grabbed for his hamstring.

Gus Atkinson was brought back for the Boxing Day Test after being left out the Adelaide game.
