Former President Trump stated on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a Guard member killed last week to come to the presidential home.
He noted that he conversed with her parents and they were “devastated”.
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a shooting on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Vigils across the state have taken place in their honor.
The president said he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” the president told the press. “And likewise with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Attendees gathered over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the state guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to aid law enforcement in Washington DC.
“Sarah was the kind of student that teachers desired. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a positive energy that inspired those around her,” Hankins, the leader of her alma mater, told the press. “She was caring, compassionate and always willing to assist people.”
Service details for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Law enforcement have indicted a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of homicide and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The event caused the Trump administration to suspend asylum applications and temporarily stop granting visas to holders of passports from Afghanistan.
Wolfe, a native of the city, started his military career in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, as reported by the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
Attorney general the attorney general told a news show that she planned to visit his relatives.
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a MP with honor, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had courage,” he told the audience at the vigil. “Though her time was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
