LBJ's Legendary Scoring Streak Comes to a Close, Yet Los Angeles Secure Triumph Over Raptors.

The Lakers star knew his monumental streak of scoring in double figures was threatened. When it mattered most, though, he wasn't bothered.

The correct basketball play involved passing the basketball – and he executed. Consequently, his remarkable run was over.

James's astounding run of over 1,200 straight NBA regular season outings scoring at least ten was snapped on Thursday night, when the league's career points king had only eight points during the Los Angeles Lakers' close triumph versus Toronto. He provided the game-winning assist, setting up teammate Rui Hachimura for a triple at the buzzer.

“None,” James replied in response on the record concluding. “The important thing is we won.”

A Team-First Decision Delivers the Game

LeBron had the chance to attempted to win the contest – and preserved his record – on the final possession, instead, he decided to make the extra pass to Rui in the left corner. Hachimura sank it, with LeBron raised his arms triumphantly.

You have to play the game correctly. You always make the correct play,” James explained. That has always been how I operate. It's how I was taught the game. That's what I've done my whole career.”

James is very conscious of his point total he's scored at any point,” stated the team's head coach the coach. He made the play as he has done countless times.”

The Run's End Game

LeBron checked back into the contest one last time with 5:23 remaining, the result along with the historic run both hanging in the balance. At that stage, he had only six points on 3-of-15 shooting at that juncture.

He got a bucket at 1:46 left to level the contest and missed a mid-range jumper with 1:01 left that might have pushed him to double digits.

He passed up one more attempt – but could have. A teammate passed him the ball in the waning seconds, however, James opted to dish it off instead of shooting.

The basketball deities, if you approach it the right way, they often reward you,” the coach concluded.

A Look Back at an Unparalleled Streak

James's streak started on Jan. 6, 2007. It was easily the longest such streak in NBA history: His Airness, Michael Jordan previously held a streak of 866 straight games with 10+ points, Kareem recorded 787, and Karl Malone had the fourth-longest run of 575 games.

He is such an unselfish player,” noted teammate a fellow Laker.

“He’s just playing the game of basketball. The chance was there but given his nature as a player and his character off the court, he chose the team play, passed it to Rui and we won the game.”

Scoring in double figures had typically been an afterthought well before the start of fourth quarters. Over the course of the record, he had attained double figures by the start of the fourth over twelve hundred times prior to Thursday.

Yet two of those rare single-digit games through three quarters took place recently: He had nine entering the final quarter versus the Mavericks on 28 November, then had six points going into the fourth versus the Suns earlier in the week.

James managed to preserve the record against the Suns. In the following contest, it finished – yet he was celebrating all the same.

“I always just make the correct play. That comes naturally, regardless of outcome,” James declared. If you make the smart play, the sports deities are always rewarding me.”
