A campaign is aiming to propel a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The project aims to provide aid to Gaza's residents while also spotlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a chance to support Palestinians this festive season. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“That would be amazing if that came to pass, yes,” he commented. “I’m not gonna be completely disheartened if it fails to, holiday tracks are a category of their own.”
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the reimagining of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's powerful central theme.
“The song holds a deeply meaningful spot for a lot of people,” Barghouti said. “The essence is that I would choose to perish with honor than spend my life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we desire to exist a respectful existence that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
The track was produced following a large-scale benefit event held in late summer. First conceived to be performed and recorded live, the rendition was shelved during the concert due to scheduling overruns.
The diverse array of artists featured on Lullaby encompasses a range of acclaimed names from the scene. All participated in the September show, which successfully generated a considerable total for relief efforts.
Lullaby was crafted by a team of producers and composers. The single showcases a fusion of the traditional Arabic lyrics with contemporary English verses.
The organizers behind the initiative have clarified that their objective is to generate maximum funds for a specific fund. These proceeds will be allocated to projects in Palestine through an non-profit partner.
“We haven't set a rigid aim,” a representative explained. “We will pursue as much as possible. Obviously, the more the merrier. All proceeds are directed out to those in need in Gaza.”
The reality in the area was described as its profound destruction, with a vast majority of infrastructure said to be levelled or seriously harmed.
“In that context, a couple of million doesn’t make a massive dent. But I think the significant factor is primarily spreading knowledge of this plight and demonstrating there’s another side to the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is launching on Friday. Additionally, a video of the charity concert will be made accessible to view on a popular streaming site from mid-December.
