Over the weekend, the game developers launched a fresh playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several notable adjustments:
So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it gives additional choices for players looking for alternative ways to have fun with the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are mad.
"People want human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," states a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," says another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," while someone else details all the issues they believe to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," adds a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Despite the support, players have valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it will make wait times even longer for different playlists because of the sheer number of options currently available. Similarly, certain regions often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, a major complaints is that a previous feature was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to remove XP farming from the system. Thus this new playlist feels like the community compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"
If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
