Pat Cummins bowling

The pace bowler has claimed 309 wickets in 71 Test matches with an average of 22.10.

Australia's selection chief the selector has stated that skipper Cummins will play a "major part" in the upcoming England-Australia contest.

Speculation had been growing that the veteran bowler might sit out due to a stress fracture in his back that was still troubling him.

Earlier indications from team management suggested no official announcement had been made regarding his involvement, with the five-Test series scheduled to begin on 21 November in Perth.

The selector shared that the captain is progressing and felt positive about the likelihood of participating.

"We know that the clock is ticking and multiple considerations involved, aside from his injury, but other factors as well," the selector added.

"It's positive. We firmly believe that he's going to play a major part. With luck starting in Perth. If not, we'll adjust."

Previous Setbacks

He was sidelined the ODI and T20 games against New Zealand and India in the previous weeks after scans revealed a lumbar bone stress.

Previous incidents include of recurring issues, with flare-ups in 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2015-16 forcing him out of three Australian summers in a short span.

Cummins stated he would be ""aggressive" and "take risks" in his recovery plan to secure his spot for the Ashes.

The selector indicated that there was no confirmation if he had started his bowling workouts as part of his rehabilitation but conceded it was "getting tight" for him to recover fully for the first Test.

Contingency Plans

If he's unavailable, former captain Steve Smith will lead the side.

Versatile player Green was excluded lately from the ODI lineup for their limited-overs matches against the Asian giants as a safety move because of an abdominal issue.

The selector characterized it as a "minor" injury and stated that he'll feature in the Sheffield Shield, so will be "ideally positioned to resume bowling."

"We put so much time has gone into building out the plan for him to participate for the initial game as an all-rounder," he elaborated.

"Originally, he'd only feature in the initial matches in any case. How he handles the cricket bat in white-ball cricket, if it causes any delay for 24 more hours, we just made the decision to take a cautious route."
